What is True Wisdom?

The first question to ask is not what is true wisdom, but what is the difference between wisdom and knowledge. I don’t know about you, but I do not enjoy interactions with “know-it-alls” who have an answer to everything. These are the kinds of people who are closed to any new ideas, and as a result, are closed to God’s wisdom. I have discovered that there is a lot of knowledge in this world, and with the way everything is accessible on-demand, knowledge is very easy to retrieve and obtain. In a way, it is easy to belive that this is the root of wisdom, but this is where we fail. Knowledge is having the facts, while wisdom is applying those facts to life. When we realize this fact of life is when we can understand that knowledge is only valuable to us when we apply it to our lives correctly. Then the question becomes how do we correctly apply knowledge to our lives? I believe that the only way to do this is to discover God’s wisdom daily. I began to read Proverbs, which is chuck full of wisdom. I realized that through reading Proverbs, I understood more of what Solomon was getting at when I read through the lens of Proverbs 1:7: “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” (NLT) This timeless truth points out that true knowledge is found in a healthy fear of the Lord. I believe that this entails becoming less each day, and allowing Him to become more. Each day we can realize that we know nothing, except through God, and pick up His wisdom. This is how we can view the world we live in more clearly. As this verse points out, discipline plays a large part in discovering true knowledge. To me, this means holding to a structure of reading, praying, and discovering God. When we are disciplined, God will reward us with his true wisdom. “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” (2 Cor. 9:6 - NIV) Now I am on a path of discovering true wisdom daily. I hope you will join me.
